Chanel presented their Fall 2024 Haute Couture collection this week, marking a significant transition as the fashion house moves away from the Virginie Viard era. The event was graced by a sophisticated, star-studded front row, each celebrity bringing their unique style and flair to the occasion.
Keira Knightley exemplified what Chanel has been missing. The British actress effortlessly embodied the brand’s classic elegance, making even the two-tone shoes—often a hard sell—seem appealing. But in truth, with a dress as stunning as hers, the focus was naturally drawn away from the footwear.
Naomi Campbell’s relationship with Chanel remains a bit puzzling to me. While the supermodel looked good in an archive piece at the Cannes Film Festival, the embellished Chanel suit she wore at this event felt somewhat aging, not quite capturing the allure she usually exudes.
Michelle Williams opted for simplicity, donning a black Chanel dress accented with gold buttons. Her understated look highlighted the elegance of Chanel’s designs without any unnecessary frills.
Camila Morrone, with her innate sex appeal, surprisingly fits well within the Chanel aesthetic. Her appearance once again proved that the right look and styling can make the brand work for anyone.
Greta Gerwig continued her fashion streak, following her impressive Cannes appearances, by choosing a Chanel broderie anglaise cotton outfit. Despite the less-than-ideal black shoes, her overall look was a testament to her growing fashion prowess.
Zoey Deutch’s new blonde hue and pixie cut appears to have sparked a new statement earrings obsession, adding a fresh dimension to her style.
Let’s hope that the new creative director for Chanel gives these celebrities some more show options. Not that these black shoes are strong enough to kill the love I have for Sadie Sink’s Chanel fit and flare dress.
Kerry Washington’s tweed Chanel suit was less flattering. Even in black and white, the ill-fitting nature of the suit was apparent, failing to highlight Kerry’s usually impeccable style.
Griff was always going to present a Chanel look with plenty of flair.
Anna Sawai is the new girl on the fashion block, and I hope we see plenty more from her on the red carpet before she is inevitably tied to a fashion contract.
Finally, Dianna Agron’s tweed Chanel suit was elegant, though it seemed more suited to someone like Michelle Pfeiffer.
As Chanel transitions to a new creative era, I hope the new director will offer these celebrities even more exciting options.
