Finally, a statement coat is where fashion meets function. Once you have the practical essentials covered, it’s fun to add a few bolder, stylish options to the mix—like an edgy leather bomber or a glamorous faux fur. This type of coat instantly elevates an outfit and is a great way to inject your personal style into your outerwear wardrobe.
My personal favorite type of statement coat is a leather moto or bomber jacket, like in the outfit above. I like how it adds an edgy vibe to my classic, luxe looks. But I also make sure to have some type of faux fur jacket on hand for holiday events and for leveling up date night looks.

This Sanctuary faux fur jacket is on sale at Bloomingdale’s; I got mine last year, and I’ve worn it quite a bit. I like how the zip-up front looks a little more casual than some. I also have this BlankNYC faux fur with the shawl collar that I like for dressier looks. I wore this last year with a velvet dress to my husband’s holiday cocktail party.
And then there are shearling coats, aka sherpa or teddy coats, which strike the perfect balance between cozy and chic. These are great for adding texture and warmth to casual or semi-dressy winter looks.

I splurged on this Vince Faux Shearling Coat last winter when it went on sale, and I love how it adds a touch of drama to my everyday looks, and it’s soooo warm.
